Lisa Schaefer Millinery is exhibitiing at the Grenfell Art Gallery in a joint exhibition with Fabric Sauce titled 'Bespoke Affair’ from Wednesday 29th April to Saturday 23rd May, 2015.
This collection is a wonderful demonstration of how the creativity and meticulous design of local and regional artisans can transform fabrics, thread and raw textiles including lace, straw, feathers and sinamay into fabulous wearable art and heirloom pieces.
The exhibition will feature hats from my studio showcasing traditional millinery techniques used including hand blocking, extensive hand stitching and hand wiring. There will be a number of cocktail hats, ‘up’ hats and disc hats which feature predominantly in my more recent designs. Viewers will identify some pieces with a vintage flare whilst others have their own unique and distinctive personality.
The Fabric Source Regional Quilters group present their magnificent quilts, cushions and other handmade items. These textile artists are all from the local area and travel into Grenfell to attend workshops and stitching days on a regular basis. All have different skills and interests as demonstrated in the variety of individual works created. Some designs are faithful reproductions, some are original designs by the artist and most are patterns made with the artist’s own fabric choices, making them unique and priceless.
The Grenfell Art Gallery is open Tuesdays - Fridays 10.00am to 4.00 pm and Saturdays from 9.30am to noon. Also Monday May 4th and Monday May 18th and Saturdays - 9.30 am to 12 pm.
